First post here we go! Got to give credit for T Bake for getting me on here he is a good man and a good friend.

I have been running 3 times a week hitting between 5-7 miles a day this summer mostly baby jogger miles. Saw there was a trail run nearby and figured I had to jump in to honor the XC season and relive some old memories. The race day was gorgeous heavy fog on the drive out to the course and the autumn colors in their prime. The course itself was grass path cut into rolling prairie hills heavy with dew. The sun had just started to cut through the fog when the gun went off. During an easy 2 mile warm up realized the course was very soggy and muddy in places. Saw one guy in compression shorts that was trim and fit figured it would be between the two of us.

I eased into a steady pace up the first hill not trying to push it probing my competition. As with any road race you just don't know who is going to show up and I was not in great shape with my longest runs being ~7 miles @ 6:30 pace. I was hoping to hold something like that and see if it was enough. I started to get separation without straining and got a shot of racing adrenaline and started to push a little. Soon it was just the sound of my breathing and soft foot fall on the wet grass. This course didn't have 100m of flat anywhere all up or down with lots of 90 to 180 turns. Just got into a good rhythm and let my mind go numb. Never really saw anyone I caught a few 5k walkers. Felt good to feel the sweat drip in my eyes. It was fun to get the win found out the runner-up coaches the HS team in Maryville and had run in college a little and was just getting back into it. This race was everything I love about running (except for the team/partner aspect) great weather, course and felt the blissful rush of a runner's high. Made for a great rest of the day! The race rekindled my desire to take a shot at the Maryville Marathon next June hoping to build up to 60 miles a week and will need this log/blog to keep me motivated. Thanks to Sasha for creating this site.

Raining outside and 40ish so hit up the tread for a quick 5 miler go into low 6's for the last 3 miles or about my goal for the marathon.

Put in an hour of moderate running with the jog stroller. My mom just got me the weather shield for the stroller and it keeps the girls nice and toasty plus cuts down a bit on the wind drag. Figure I got about 8 miles.

Started the day and week off right with a good 50 min run with the girls. Felt really relaxed. It was mid 50's and the extra light was great from daylight savings. Still feeling really motivated for the marathon we will see where I am at in 3 months :)

Hit 45 min this AM with jog stroller a little faster pace than usual. Feeling good.

Jared - welcome to the blog. I believe we've met. Did you run leg 2 of Wasatch Back from Providence to Hyrum a few years ago - either 2007 or 2008?

Jared running again... ohhhhh man! You have to put your 8k pr off to the side here... That will turn some heads.. 22:58 is no messing around.

From Jared K on Thu, Nov 06, 2014 at 09:17:48 from 166.102.227.226

Thanks Sasha. I did run the second leg in '08. The first leg went a little too well and I paid for it in the next two :) I remember you at some road races in Orem when I was in HS. You are a great runner and thanks for your hard work in creating this site. I've been following for a year or so and being in a small town with no possible training partners this will help a ton.

I really shouldn't even log this but I had a lot of fun getting this mile in. Ran it with the scouts they are doing there physical fitness test and I paced them because my best boy stops to walk and then sprints and was running in lane 2 for the first lap. I paced him to a 7:30ish mile.

Did abs at work during lunch with light upper body and then repeat with the scouts. If there was a climbing gym here I would be really tempted to get into rock climbing a few times a week.

Got up a little earlier than usual and went solo. Was near marathon pace for the bulk of the run. All I can say is doing that 3 more times in a row is going to hurt! Good thing I got 7 months.

Got a nice long run in did my opening loop that is 7.2 miles with the girls and then hit another 2.3 at hard effort finished in ~65. Good overall week to really launch the marathon campaign. Hoping to stay 30-35 miles this month. Bump up 5-10 per month while keeping good intestity. Want to be at 60-70 for 1-2 months before the marathon with 18-20 mile long run. A lot of work yet to go.

Really didn't want to get out of bed but it is the last day of nice weather for at least a week as we are having an artic blast come through which will drop temps by 20-30 degrees. I'm handling 40 degrees fine but it is not going to happen in the teens right now. Lots of treadmill the rest of the week. Calves are feeling it from Saturday but didn't hinder me today. That is what blew up on me in my half marathon so need to get them stronger.

Holy Moly! if it isn't the legendary JK! good to see you logging some miles. We need to catch up some time on the phone, and definitely meet up for midwest half marathon?!?! during your marathon campaign. I will give you a few more weeks, if needed. Figured the last time we ran, Matthew and I did a little work on you in the Orem days "Po-Po" 5k. Hope all is well

Had the alarm set to beat the girls up and get most of the run done while they were asleep but they got up around 6. After getting sippies filled snuck downstairs and cranked out 8 miles. After a slow 2 mile warm up got down to averaging 6:45's. After the good sweat weighed in at 151.5. Have been steady at 154-155 Hope to drop down to 150ish by time the marathon goes down. Still trying to wrap my mind around just how long the marathon is...

150!!! man... That's a lethal race weight.. Don't think about how long the marathon is... Just that day's training and as you build the marathon will seem less "out there" 26.2 miles never will be accustomed to in my opinion unless you train the mileage like Jake Buhler... You'll be ok if you get some 20 milers in and mentally prepare yourself haha.

Up at 5 not tired not sure why?! Decided to try a newer staple workout the treadmill tempo. 2 mile warm up nice and easy ~15:45 Then started at 7 min pace and increased the speed by 1/10th every half mile eventually getting down to sub 6 min pace for the last half mile. Goal was to stay relaxed for as long as possible listening to some Enya. Felt great through 5 didn't really start to work hard until about 6:18 pace at about 8 miles. Legs feeling recovered. I would love to get to where I can start at 6 min pace and work down to 5 min pace making a 10 mile tempo but not until late winter. Girls slept through the noise which is a plus.

The main victory of this workout is the girls sleeping through it... We'll get you running nasty tempos again.... even with the incline up! haha Good work Doc!

Ran 70 min in a blizzard! We got 2 inches of snow took the girls they had a good time and stayed nice and toasty. The roads were pretty slick and without a lot of traction it was a pretty controlled effort.

It was all of 7 degrees outside with ice on the roads so more treadmill. Wanted to get 10 but was bushed so cut it short at 7 averaged 6:45's. I tanked yesterday the girls were up at 4 am and by time my alarm went off it just wasn't happening.

Bad running week was up yesterday to go but my foot was killing me couldn't put weight on it. I tweaked it ~2 months ago playing raquetball but hadn't had a problem with it for awhile. I canned the run but 15-20 min later it was pain free. Kind of odd but finished off a poor week. Hopefully get 10 tomorrow and start stronger next week.

No local turkey trot so figured I would do something a little quicker today. 2 mile warm up and then averaged lower 6's. Ham-string a little tight at first but loosened up well. Nice to have the day off.

Another treadmill tempo a little faster but didn't get the full 10 miles in due to time. Felt pretty good. Hopefully can build a decent level of fitness for when warmer weather arrives. 6 min miles feels a little fast on the treadmill I need to get comfortable at that pace.

Haven't been hitting it very hard with family out last week, cold weather and it being so dark. Body felt great after 2 mile warm up avg 6:30's and felt easy could of gone 10 if I had the time. Still not super ambitious but want to stay in decent shape so when it warms up I will have an okay base if I want to do anything with it.
